Sarah Hunter

About Sarah

I am a naturopath offering holistic nutrition and herbal medicine, centred in both traditional and evidence based practice. I completed my Bachelor's Degree of Health Science with distinction in Naturopathy from Endeavour College of Natural Medicine in Sydney, in 2020. I also have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Newcastle.
My special areas of interest are the integumentary, gastrointestinal and nervous system with an approach focused on a whole foods diet, kitchen medicine, re-establishing a connection to the natural rhythm of the world and an understanding of the powerful combination of plant medicine and the bodies own innate power to heal.
I truly love holding space for my clients to be heard, often for the first time in their lives. The modern medical model typically allows only 5-10 minutes for a client to voice their concerns to a practitioner. Naturopathy however, delves into your whole health history, alongside your presenting complaints, to peel back the layers and renew your health, beginning with a 90 minute initial consult.

When formulating your treatment plan, I work strictly within the foundational principles of naturopathic medicine and the therapeutic order. I’d like to share them with you here to garner a better understanding of my practice in case this is your first visit to a naturopath or it has been a while between visits:

  THERAPEUTIC ORDER:

  1. Re-establish the conditions/foundations for health
  2. Stimulate the healing power of nature
  3. Restore and support/tonify weakened systems
  4. Address structural integrity
  5. Address pathology
  6. Refer as necessary
As we work together and you become familiar with my practice, you will note I try my best to always start with the fundamentals: a return to/introduction to the natural rhythms of life and utilising the healing power of nature. I am not interested in selling unnecessary supplements as a bandaid approach so you can rest assured if I suggest a herb, supplement or product to you, it will most likely be as a short term support while we traverse the path to you feeling well again. Whilst I always take a conservative approach, I believe in utilising herbal and nutritional supplementation in particular cases and find working with these natural therapies can garner fantastic results as they can be fully customised and adapted to suit the clients changing needs.

My clinic is located within my store, Blackwood Apothecary, a plant based herbal dispensary, homewares and health food store.
