Lions Mane Mushroom (Hericium erinaceus)

☕️ For the last few months I’ve been drinking a stove top chai w/lions mane mushroom as often as possible to tonify my nervous system, balance digestion and stimulate the immune system. I've blended a caffeine free chai blend for the apothecary shelves based on rooibos and it mixes perfectly with powdered mushroom. I usually blend a little organic honey or brown rice syrup with it to sweeten the slight bitterness of the mushroom. We’re fully stocked with a variety of different medicinal mushrooms in powdered, dried, encapsulated and even chocolate covered forms so I thought I’d share some information on different mushrooms across the next few weeks.

🍄🍄 ~LIONS MANE~🍄🍄

Beautiful Lions mane grows on tree bark and logs in long tendrils, hence the name.

The powerful combo of polysaccharides, beta glucans, fatty acids, antioxidants, polypeptides, amino acids and nerve growth factors 🙋🏻‍♀️ in Lions mane target the brain, nervous and immune systems. This assists with increasing cognitive function, stimulating growth, regeneration and healing of neural tissue as well as balancing digestion, co-ordination, sensory responses and immunity.
Studies have also linked this mushroom with reducing anxiety and depression and increasing memory retention. This makes it the perfect choice for students and anyone struggling to remember or recall information at the same tenacity they once did. Stress plays a huge role in memory recall along with inflammation - yes BRAIN INFLAMMATION is a thing and a very real contributor to cognitive decline and mental illness.

I've struggled with anxiety in varying degrees for many years and while its mostly controlled now, I rely on herbal allies, including magic Lions mane, on a daily basis for support. Herbal support for mental health is one of my passion areas in herbal medicine so I could speak all day on that topic. We’re open from 9-5 every day this week so come talk mushrooms and herbs with me! ✨
